Employee Free Choice Act
The Employee Free Choice Act Benefits Working People
Sixty million U.S. workers say they would join a union if they could. However, when workers try to gain a voice on the job employers often respond with intimidation, harassment and retaliation.
In fact, 25 percent of the time when workers try to start a union in the private-sector they are fired. American workers who want to unite to improve their lives need stronger laws to support the basic freedom to form a union.
The bipartisan Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) would ensure that when a majority of employees in a workplace decide to form a union, they can do so without the obstacles employers currently use to block their right to unite together. This law would level the playing field so all workers have a fair chance to win a voice on the job in order to secure a decent standard of living, affordable health care, retirement security and safer workplaces.
The Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) will:
- Create a fair playing field that allows all workers the freedom to form unions.
- Allow working people to build strength to win higher wages, healthcare, and a secure retirement.
- Discourage corporations from illegally firing workers who try to form unions by imposing stronger penalties.
- Allow employees to form unions by signing cards authorizing union representation.
- Give workers the freedom to negotiate their contracts.
